Green Girls Platform (GGP) we are a non-profit young women-led organization that works with girls and young women from the ages of 8-35 to address the unique challenges that they face due to climate change in Malawi. While primarily focused on this demographic, we embrace inclusivity by involving women and men in certain and limited activities. This approach underscores our commitment to diversity and collaboration, ensuring that our programs and initiatives cater to all individuals; varied needs and perspectives within communities.
Our Mission
We are determined to provide safe spaces where girls and young women can gain the skills and knowledge they need to actively participate in climate change governance and decision-making at local, national, and global levels, enabling them to develop climate-resilient solutions that work in their contexts.
Our vision
To ensure that girls and young women in Malawi have sustainable climate resilience and empowerment strategies that enable them to fully enjoy their human rights and lift themselves out of poverty.
Our WorkWhat we do
Climate change disproportionately affects girls and young women in Malawi, disrupting education, livelihoods, health, and safety, while their voices remain underrepresented in climate and development decision-making spaces. We work to ensure that the lived experiences of girls and young women are at the centre of climate action in Malawi.
Climate Education
We provide hands-on, inclusive climate education that equips young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence, integrating STEM, innovation, and Indigenous knowledge. Through our flagship projects, such as E-STEM for climate action, Sports for Climate Action, and the Chilengedwe handbook.
Climate Justice
We work to advance climate justice by supporting young women and girls to fully exercise their rights in the context of climate change and to strengthen their capacity to adapt to its impacts in Malawi. We also actively engage in climate governance and decision-making structures at local, national, and international levels.
Girls and Young Women Empowerment
We work to advance the social and economic empowerment of girls and young women, enabling them to build resilience, adapt to climate impacts, and develop climate solutions tailored to their unique contexts.
Organizational Capacity Development
We are strengthening our internal systems, governance, partnerships, and sustainability to deliver long-term impact to girls and young women in Malawi.
