More Than Just a Workout: Celebrating International Youth Day

More Than Just a Workout: Celebrating International Youth Day

In celebration of the 2026 International Youth Day that was on the 12th August, we celebrated the day through aerobics, yoga, and interactive games that brought us all together. It was inspiring to see youth organizations and partners show up, collaborate, and bring their top game!

At Green Girls Platform, we firmly believe that environmental advocacy and social change cannot happen in isolation. Building a strong, resilient community is essential to achieving our shared goals.

A massive thank you to our partners: Clean Cities Project, Point of Progress, Drone Society Malawi, KISU Investment, MI Technologies and Innovation, and Aerobics Fitness Centre. To our dear youth: we did it!

Climate resilience is not built through infrastructure alone. It is built when girls and young women have safe spaces to learn, lead, heal, and grow.

Last month, we brought together 50 girls and young women in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota, for an interactive session on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and leadership through our Her Resilience, Her Power project.

Through the established safe spaces in the community girls and young women are able to speak openly about the climate realities they face, understand their rights, strengthen their leadership skills, and build the confidence to become active leaders in climate action.

The girls and young women also received dignity kits containing reusable sanitary pads and hygiene products to help them as they recover and build back better.

At Green Girls Platform, we believe that resilient communities begin with girls and young women. When they have the tools, knowledge, and support to lead, they become powerful climate advocates, creating healthier communities, advancing climate justice, and shaping a greener future for all.

We are proud to implement Her Resilience, Her Power with the support of the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF).

This Youth Month, we are celebrating the young women who are proving that safe spaces are the foundation of climate resilience!

Innovate for People and the Planet: Celebrating Our Innovate for Planet Earth Challenge Winner!

Innovate for People and the Planet: Celebrating Our Innovate for Planet Earth Challenge Winner!

At Green Girls Platform, we firmly believe that local solutions hold the key to driving global climate action. Across communities in Malawi, young innovators are stepping up with brilliant, home-grown ideas to tackle environmental and agricultural challenges.

We are beyond proud to announce the winner of our Innovate for Planet Earth Challenge: Stephano Malamulo!

Stephano developed Zero Chemical Agriculture, an environmentally friendly technology designed to enhance soil health without relying on harmful chemicals. As agricultural communities face the mounting pressures of land degradation and expensive synthetic inputs, innovations like Stephano’s offer a vital, natural pathway forward. Most importantly, his innovation is tailored to local needs and easily accessible for local small-scale farmers in Malawi, ensuring that grassroots communities can directly benefit from sustainable agricultural practices.

Join us in celebrating Stephanoโ€™s incredible work and commitment to our planet! We invite our community, partners, and supporters to follow along as we continue to champion youth-led innovations that drive a greener, more resilient future for Malawi and beyond.

Young Women Climate Negotiators Program: Driving Grassroots Change

Young Women Climate Negotiators Program: Driving Grassroots Change

At the Green Girls Platform, we believe that climate justice begins at the grassroots level. Today, we are thrilled to spotlight Malumbo Mkinga, one of our young women under the Young Women Climate Negotiators Program, who is turning her advocacy into tangible action through her project: Empowering Youth through Sustainable Briquettes Making and Manure Production.

In partnership with the Mzuzu Diocese, Malumbo has mobilized 40 young people from various clubs across Mzuzu to lead their community toward a more resilient future.

The project focuses on two critical challenges facing many Malawian communities:

  1. Restoring the Soil with Permaculture Manure
The training kicked off with a deep dive into the science of the land. Participants explored the devastating link between soil degradation, falling crop yields, and food insecurity.
  2. Briquettes: The Clean Energy Alternative
Malumboโ€™s project introduces sustainable briquettes made from agricultural waste as a game-changer. These briquettes significantly reduce the need for firewood and charcoal, helping to curb deforestation. On top of that they offer a low-cost alternative for households, putting money back into the pockets of local families.

As we approach Earth Day, Malumboโ€™s leadership serves as a reminder that the youth are not just the leaders of tomorrowโ€”they are the innovators of today. These 40 young participants are gaining more than just technical skills; they are building the foundation for sustainable livelihoods that will support their families and protect our environment for generations to come.

We applaud Malumbo for her dedication to the community and her commitment to the principles of climate justice. Her work reminds us that when we empower young women to lead, the entire community thrives.

Launching “Her Resilience, Her Power” in Nkhotakota

Launching “Her Resilience, Her Power” in Nkhotakota

At Green Girls Platform, we believe that those most affected by the climate crisis should be at the forefront of the solution. This week, we are thrilled to announce the official launch of the Her Resilience, Her Power Project in Nkhotakota District. Supported by the African Womenโ€™s Development Fund (AWDF), this three-month initiative is specifically designed to support 50 girls and young women from Mbuna Village in Dwangwa.

Turning Eco-Anxiety into Action
Living on the frontlines of environmental change often brings a heavy emotional burden. Many young women living in such communities experience eco-anxiety and the “Her Resilience, Her Power” project is designed to tackle this head on by:

  1. Creating Safe Spaces: Providing a platform where young women can share their experiences and recharge emotionally.
  2. Building Technical Knowledge: Equipping participants with a solid foundation in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and climate resilience.
  3. Fostering Leadership: Training the next generation of climate advocates to lead their communities in sustainable environmental action.

We are confident that by working hand-in-hand with local leadership, we can create a sustainable model for empowerment. Over the next three months, we aren’t just teaching climate science; we are building a movement of resilient leaders who can navigate and mitigate the challenges of a changing world.

Join the Journey
We invite you to follow along as we share updates from the field. Witness how these 50 young women transform their anxieties into powerful, community-led climate action.

Beyond the Court: Green Girls Basketball Leads Cleanup at Kamuzu Institute for Sports

Beyond the Court: Green Girls Basketball Leads Cleanup at Kamuzu Institute for Sports

At Green Girls Platform, we believe that leadership and teamwork shouldn’t stop when the final whistle blows. On April 16th, 2026, our Green Basketball Team stepped off the court and into action, partnering with CEZOBAL for a dedicated cleanup drive at the Kamuzu Institute for Sports basketball court.

This initiative marks the first of many climate-focused projects our team has planned for the year. By clearing litter and restoring the space where we play, our athletes are proving that sports can be a powerful vehicle for environmental stewardship. We are incredibly proud to see our players taking ownership of their community and encouraging the wider basketball family to do the same.

Innovating for Planet Earth
This cleanup serves as the perfect buildup to our Earth Day celebrations on April 22nd. This year, we are moving under the theme โ€œInnovate for Planet Earth,โ€ a call to action that emphasizes the need for creative and sustainable solutions to our environmental challenges.

Our commitment goes beyond a single day of service; we are dedicated to fostering a culture of innovation among young people in Malawi. Whether it is through sports or community engagement, we believe that when youth are empowered to innovate, they become the ultimate catalysts for climate action.

Join the Movement
As we look ahead to Earth Day and the rest of the year, we invite you to take action in your own circles. Letโ€™s keep our sports facilities clean, our communities green, and our minds focused on innovating for a better planet.

Stay tuned for more updates as our Green Basketball Team continues to champion change, both on and off the court!
