Last week, the Green Girls Platform team, in partnership with Trรณcaire, carried out a tree planting initiative at Mitundu Primary School.
Beyond their classroom lessons in the E-STEM project, where students leverage Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to solve local environmental challenges, it is truly inspiring to watch these young leaders turn environmental challenges into opportunities for real action.
The students are committed not just in planting these 100 trees, but to nurturing, watering, and maintaining them until they grow to provide fresh air, shade, and fruit for their school community.

Green Girls Platform participated in the EnDev Malawi Impact and Portfolio Development Dialogue on 8th October 2026.
Having implemented the EnergiseHer project under EnDev, we welcomed the opportunity to reflect on the programmeโs achievements, share lessons and explore future partnerships to advance sustainable energy access in Malawi.
EnDevโs diverse portfolio has supported household energy access, clean cooking, productive uses of energy, agriculture, health and social institutions, and energy market development. We are proud to have contributed to these efforts and look forward to seeing the progress sustained and expanded.
During the dialogue, we learned that Malawi is among six first-wave countries selected for the new ENGAGE programme, building on EnDevโs achievements to accelerate Africaโs energy transition in support of the African Unionโs goals. We wish the team and partners every success in this next chapter!

This week, Green Girls Platform joined Ascent Soccer Academy for an inspiring climate education and tree planting session.
During the session, we explored how human activities contribute to climate change and how young people can take meaningful action to protect our environment.
To turn awareness into practical action, Green Girls Platform donated trees, which were planted around the football ground together with Ascent Soccer players.
Through Sports for Climate Action, we are using sports as a powerful tool for climate education, environmental restoration, and youth engagement in building a greener future.

Green Girls Platform recently participated in the pre-testing of a draft handbook on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) process and climate negotiations, organized by the Civil Society Network on Climate Change – Cisonecc in collaboration with the Environmental Affairs Department (EAD).
This handbook is more than a resource; it is a tool to make complex climate processes easier to understand and navigate, especially for girls and young women who want to engage in climate decision-making spaces.
Reviewing the handbook provided us with an opportunity to assess its clarity, relevance, accuracy, and practicality before it is finalized.
As we strive to create safe spaces where girls and young women can actively participate in climate decision-making processes, including UNFCCC processes and climate negotiations, we believe this handbook will be a valuable resource.
We believe that when climate processes are simplified and made more inclusive, young women can actively engage, contribute, and help shape outcomes at the global level.

In celebration of the 2026 International Youth Day that was on the 12th August, we celebrated the day through aerobics, yoga, and interactive games that brought us all together. It was inspiring to see youth organizations and partners show up, collaborate, and bring their top game!

Climate resilience is not built through infrastructure alone. It is built when girls and young women have safe spaces to learn, lead, heal, and grow.
Last month, we brought together 50 girls and young women in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota, for an interactive session on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and leadership through our Her Resilience, Her Power project.
Through the established safe spaces in the community girls and young women are able to speak openly about the climate realities they face, understand their rights, strengthen their leadership skills, and build the confidence to become active leaders in climate action.
The girls and young women also received dignity kits containing reusable sanitary pads and hygiene products to help them as they recover and build back better.
At Green Girls Platform, we believe that resilient communities begin with girls and young women. When they have the tools, knowledge, and support to lead, they become powerful climate advocates, creating healthier communities, advancing climate justice, and shaping a greener future for all.
We are proud to implement Her Resilience, Her Power with the support of the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF).
This Youth Month, we are celebrating the young women who are proving that safe spaces are the foundation of climate resilience!

Stephano developed Zero Chemical Agriculture, an environmentally friendly technology designed to enhance soil health without relying on harmful chemicals. As agricultural communities face the mounting pressures of land degradation and expensive synthetic inputs, innovations like Stephano’s offer a vital, natural pathway forward. Most importantly, his innovation is tailored to local needs and easily accessible for local small-scale farmers in Malawi, ensuring that grassroots communities can directly benefit from sustainable agricultural practices.

At the Green Girls Platform, we believe that climate justice begins at the grassroots level. Today, we are thrilled to spotlight Malumbo Mkinga, one of our young women under the Young Women Climate Negotiators Program, who is turning her advocacy into tangible action through her project: Empowering Youth through Sustainable Briquettes Making and Manure Production.
In partnership with the Mzuzu Diocese, Malumbo has mobilized 40 young people from various clubs across Mzuzu to lead their community toward a more resilient future.
The project focuses on two critical challenges facing many Malawian communities:
- Restoring the Soil with Permaculture Manure
The training kicked off with a deep dive into the science of the land. Participants explored the devastating link between soil degradation, falling crop yields, and food insecurity.
- Briquettes: The Clean Energy Alternative
Malumboโs project introduces sustainable briquettes made from agricultural waste as a game-changer. These briquettes significantly reduce the need for firewood and charcoal, helping to curb deforestation. On top of that they offer a low-cost alternative for households, putting money back into the pockets of local families.
As we approach Earth Day, Malumboโs leadership serves as a reminder that the youth are not just the leaders of tomorrowโthey are the innovators of today. These 40 young participants are gaining more than just technical skills; they are building the foundation for sustainable livelihoods that will support their families and protect our environment for generations to come.
We applaud Malumbo for her dedication to the community and her commitment to the principles of climate justice. Her work reminds us that when we empower young women to lead, the entire community thrives.

At Green Girls Platform, we believe that those most affected by the climate crisis should be at the forefront of the solution. This week, we are thrilled to announce the official launch of the Her Resilience, Her Power Project in Nkhotakota District. Supported by the African Womenโs Development Fund (AWDF), this three-month initiative is specifically designed to support 50 girls and young women from Mbuna Village in Dwangwa.
Turning Eco-Anxiety into Action
Living on the frontlines of environmental change often brings a heavy emotional burden. Many young women living in such communities experience eco-anxiety and the “Her Resilience, Her Power” project is designed to tackle this head on by:
- Creating Safe Spaces: Providing a platform where young women can share their experiences and recharge emotionally.
- Building Technical Knowledge: Equipping participants with a solid foundation in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and climate resilience.
- Fostering Leadership: Training the next generation of climate advocates to lead their communities in sustainable environmental action.
We are confident that by working hand-in-hand with local leadership, we can create a sustainable model for empowerment. Over the next three months, we aren’t just teaching climate science; we are building a movement of resilient leaders who can navigate and mitigate the challenges of a changing world.
